A Special Week in Spain

After 18 months of restrictions and lockdowns it felt extra special to have the honour of organising a week away in the Spanish sun for a group of our loyal compagnons.

October in Andalucia is perfect for cycling. We had 10 hours of sunshine every day and even up above 2000m it was still warm and pleasant for our pop up café stops.

Our tour began in the Mediterrean resort of Aguilas, which is just over the regional border in Murcia, and over 5 days we made our way westwards through Andalucia to Granada.

The journey involved 660km of riding and 12700m of climbing, which mathematicians will know, works out at an average of 130km and 2500m climbing each day.

Each day was different, starting with spectacular coastal roads, then heading into medium hills, before the desert and high mountains including Alto de Velefique, often compared with Alpe D’Huez because of its similar length and number of hairpins. By day four we were in Sierra Nevada mountains and then for day five we took one final diversion down to the coast so that we could take on the full challenge of the old merchant Goat Path route from the Med to Granada. It was an awe-inspiring way to finish a memorable week.

Chapeau to all our riders and amazing support crew.
