2024 is going to be a great year of Cycling

Here we are a few weeks into the new year and the structure of the Compagnons year is coming together.

Looks like there’s going to be a beautiful flow to our year, with five confirmed events providing the structure, leaving short blocks of time between them when we would love to attract small groups to Wales to come and discover this amazing cycling playground.

The best times to come to Wales will be April, late May, August and October.

Beginning next week we are going to Southern Spain for warm weather training. I’m really looking forward to long days in the saddle building a strong foundation of endurance for the season ahead.

In May we are taking a group from London to Paris along the Avenue Verte. This will be the first time we have cycled on this recently established route from Dieppe to Paris that combines quiet lanes and disused railway tracks to create a wonderful introduction to multi day cycling.

In June we have another first for Compagnons. We are supporting a group who are taking on a bespoke luxury LEJOG. Starting in Land End we will ride to John O Groats over nine days and have found some pretty special places to stay each night. It will be long days on the bike followed by great food and the odd glass of good wine each night. On immediate arrival in John O Groats we then have a transfer arranged to bring everyone back to Inverness for a final nights celebratory dinner. It going to be a memorable event.

This event should help set me up perfectly for my own indulgent event of the year. In July I am taking part in the North Cape 4000 ultra-adventure. We begin in Northern Italy on July 20th and then cycle to the most northerly point in Europe, the North Cape way inside the Artic circle. The route is set for us with checkpoints in Munich, Berlin, Copenhagen and northern Finland, but it’s completely unsupported and non-stop. I can’t describe just how excited I am to be taking on this crazy challenge. The Arctic has always fascinated me but I’ve never been and so this is the perfect opportunity to scratch that itch.

September sees us heading out to Slovenia. We have one group confirmed for wc 2nd September and so there is the opportunity to host a second group wc 9th . Please get in touch if you and your mates might be interested.

Once we get back from Slovenia there will be plenty of time to enjoy autumn in Wales and then the season will be over. Crazy.

Enjoy every day on your bike.
